    Kubuntu est une distribution basée sur un noyau Linux, une alternative libre (et gratuite) à d’autres systèmes d’exploitation. Une distribution, ça veut dire : un système d’exploitation ET les logiciels nécessaires à vos tâches. Présentation de Kubuntu "Koala karmique", la version 9.10 de cette distribution qui monte.

    Installing Ubuntu Dapper was as easy as clicking on "Next" a few times BUT, if you want to keep a dual boot with XPhoome, DON’T LET UBUNTU installer make the partitionning as he would reformat the full harddisk. The wired ethernet connection was perfectly detected, so upgrades and turn arounds were quite easy too (I’m networking with a router including DHCP server).     La communauté anglophone d’Ubuntu produit depuis quelques années un magazine (en pdf) consacré à sa distribution GNU/Linux préférée. J’ai découvert il y a quelques temps que je pouvais désormais le lire en français.

    Késaco KDE ? C’est le bureau que j’utilise le plus fréquemment sur mes PC. C’est une suite de logiciels, un gestionnaire graphique,... : un bureau au sens "GNU/Linux".

    My first test was with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS "Dapper". See here for the know-how of that first experience.... After the first reboot, using the wired Ethernet connection, you’ll need to install the Wifi firmware of the Broadcom chipset: installing a software, downloading a file and executing a command... It will be OK. For Ubuntu, you’ll also have to edit a file and install another software. Explanations.

    J’avais envie de mettre mon CMS préféré en local sur mon PC familial. L’installation est aisée, le serveur démarre tout seul. Le gestionnaire de base de données (MySQL) aussi. Après avoir copié les fichiers nécessaires là où il faut, j’ouvre donc mon navigateur et je lance, confiant, la procédure d’installation. Après quelques tentatives, impossible de créer une base de données.
